CFK/SB6 Parenting Conference 2014

Another successful CFK/SB6 Parenting Conference was held on October 17 and 18, 2014 at the Penticton Ramada Inn!  Close to 100 parents, child care providers and early childhood educators attended the two-day conference.

On Friday evening, Jeff Hay, a writer, speaker, parenting coach and father of 4 shared his insights on modern fatherhood, and What Dads Really Want and need to thrive in their relationships with their children, their parenting partner, and others who touch the lives of their families.

Jeff is a dynamic speaker with a diverse background in teaching, broadcasting, recreation and childcare, and has been working with families and parents since 1995.  His is a DAD enthusiast and Dadvocate, and wants to share all that he has learned to ensure all children have committed, involved, nurturing and excited fathers.  When he’s not playing his favourite role as “dad”, Jeff is speaking throughout Canada as a popular parenting educator, and working on his website “The Dad Vibe” and his parenting book “Wait Till Your Father Gets Home!”

Dr. Vanessa Lapointe, also a dynamic speaker, was the presenter on Saturday. She spoke on Playing and Growing, the importance of play in a child’s development, and Attention and  . . . Squirrel! providing information and discussion on attention problems, where they come from and how to best respond to them.

Vanessa is a registered psychologist and the founder of The Wishing Start Lapointe Developmental Clinic.  She has been supporting families and children for 15 years, and has been working in the world of private practice for the past 6 years.  She has previous experience in a variety of settings, including the British Columbia Ministry of Children and Family Development and the school system. Vanessa cherishes the opportunity to collaborate with parents, educators, childcare providers, early interventionists, mental health clinicians and other professionals to ensure that children have what they need to grow up to their fullest potential.  As a mother to two growing children, Vanessa strives not only professionally, but also personally to view the world through the child’s eye.

Both speakers have a relaxed, humorous presenting style, and provided many personal stories to the delight of participants.

Refreshments and a hot buffet lunch were included in the price of $30 per person or $45 per couple for both days. Nineteen children enjoyed the free on-site child minding on Saturday.  Storybooks and resources were provided in the participant take-home package.
