Welcome to the Communities for Kids Literacy Now page. As a member of the South Okanagan-Similkameen Literacy Now Task Group we work with other community groups and agencies to promote and support literacy for people of all ages. This webpage is our space to share Literacy Now information.

Phase I of the project included an application to establish a South Okanagan-Similkameen Literacy Now initiative in the region. Phase II of the project included a study to determine the literacy needs of the region, culminating in a report called "Weaving a Tapestry of Stories: A Community Literacy Plan for the South Okanagan Similkameen". Phase III of the project began in 2008 when the Literacy Outreach Coordinator began working with the Task Group to achieve the objectives and goals of our plan.  Realizing the scope of the literacy goals we wished to achieve, in the spring of 2009, three subcommittees were formed:  Family, Health and Workplace Literacy.

In the summer of 2009, the first ever Literacy Directory was published and distributed to service providers in the region.  You can view the Directory on the Literacy Now website at www.literacynowso-s.ca.
