Celebrating our Successes

In October 2008, the Community Table applied for and received a grant from Success by 6® to purchase an awning for the Family Centre.  It will be installed next spring and will give the CAPC program an opportunity to add more outdoor activities during the spring and summer, when the temperature rises.

In the past, we held our Table meetings at Orchard Haven during CAP-C’s Bridging the Generations program.  This type of simple collaboration between two community organizations benefits CFK parents, their children, and the residents of Orchard Haven. The residents enjoy visiting with the children, and the CFK parents have the opportunity to meet while their children are busy playing. This is simple ECD community development at its best.

Pine Park Keremeos

Very early on, Keremeos Table members identified the importance of improving our community’s parks and playgrounds, and decided to make this our first project.  With this in mind we began fund-raising for park improvements.  We made the decision to start from the ground up, so logically new impact material for playgrounds was the first agenda item. With this in mind we held two pancake breakfasts in September 2005, to raise money and community awareness of the need to improve our parks.  We have applied for funding, in partnership with the Village of Keremeos, to Success by 6® for impact material and playground equipment for Keremeos’ Pine Park.

Plans

We plan to continue to look for ways to enhance the parks and playgrounds of Keremeos, and to explore the possibility of additional community programming for children from conception to age 6.

Do you have an idea for the Community Table to consider? Please contact us.

Why do kids like to rock back and forth so much? Maybe they know it helps their brain develop.

Learning a new skill with grandpa’s arms around you is fun.
